NEW YORK - For the second time this season, Temple senior goalkeeper Haley Mitchell has been named the BIG EAST Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week. Teammate Alyssa Delp was named to the Weekly Honor Roll, also for a second time in 2015.

Mitchell and Delp helped lead the Owls to a 3-0 week with wins at #12 Old Dominion, at home against Georgetown and on the road at Lafayette, and Mitchell earned all three wins in the cage for Temple. In a BIG EAST Digital Network game on Oct. 20, Mitchell put forth a spectacular performance in goal, stopping 10 Old Dominion to shots give Temple its first league win in an upset over the #12 Monarchs, 1-0. She made four more saves for a total of 14 on the week, getting two in a 3-1 BIG EAST win vs. Georgetown (Oct. 23) and two more in a 4-1 win at Lafayette (Oct. 25). Mitchell allowed just a single goal in over 205 minutes of action, and was not in the cage for the only goal allowed at Lafayette in the final five minutes.

Delp scored three goals and recorded a key defensive save for Temple against Georgetown to preserve the Owls' 1-0 lead at the break. Temple's first-half goal against Georgetown was scored by Delp on her own rebounded shot. She scored twice more in the Owls' third straight win, a 4-1 victory at Lafayette on Sunday, including her fourth penalty stroke goal of the season on four attempts. Delp took nine shots on goal for the week including one in the Owls' win at ODU.

Temple has just one regular season game remaining to try to secure a berth in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The Owls will play at city and conference rival Villanova at noon on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Charlotte Veitner, Connecticut, So., F
Veitner tallied a goal and four dishes, tying a record that has stood since 1993, in UConn's dominating 8-0 win over Providence. Two days later, the sophomore found the back of the net again while adding two more helpers in the Huskies' 4-1 victory against No. 20 Princeton. Through four conference games, Veitner leads the BIG EAST in points, 16, and assists, eight.
