Men's Soccer Falls 2-0 to #9 SMU

DALLAS - Temple men's soccer fell 2-0 to #9 SMU to close out the regular season. The Owls let up two second half goals against the Mustangs and finish the regular season with an overall record of 10-6-2.
Despite outshooting the Mustangs 13-9, the Owls were unable to find the back of the net at Westcott Field. Senior Jared Martinelli led the team with four total shots and two on target. Jorge Gomez Sanchez, Belal Mohamed and Mark Grasela also saw strong goal-scoring chances in the match.
The Owls and the Mustangs played 45 minutes without a score from either team. As the second half opened up, SMU's Stanton Garcia knocked in the Mustangs' first goal in the 48th minute of play. Later in the second half, Brenden Lee headed in another Mustang goal in the 73rd minute to make the final score 2-0.
SMU was able to earn the American Athletic Conference regular-season title following Saturday's match and all teams within the conference will prepare for the first round of conference tournament play. The first round matches will be held on Saturday, November 7.
The Owls finish regular season conference play at number six with a conference record of 2-6-0. They will travel to UConn to face the Huskies on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. Temple was topped by UConn 2-0 in the regular season. The loss was the Owls' only loss at the Ambler Sports Complex this season.
