Women’s Tennis Competes In Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's tennis competed in the 19th annual Cissie Leary Invitational this weekend, hosted by Penn.
On Friday, Temple struggled as sophomore Yana Khon dropped to Princeton's Emily Hahn, 7-5, 6-0 in the Singles Flight A bracket. Also competing in Singles A, junior Anais Nussaume battled with Yale's Elizabeth Zordani but ultimately lost the set, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.
In the Singles Flight B bracket, senior Minami Okajima fell to Columbia's Andrea Kevakian, 6-1, 6-4. Junior Mariana Bedon also dropped her set to Maryland's Olivia Gaudreault, 2-6, 6-3, 10-2. Junior Dina Karina was the final Owl in the B flight, losing to Penn's Marta Kowalska, 6-2, 6-2.
In Doubles Flight A, Nussaume and sophomore Alina Abdurakhimova partnered up as they fell to Princeton's Dorothy Tang and Katerine Steffensen, 6-2. In Doubles B, Khon and Okajima lost to Princeton's Sara Goodwin and Nicole Kalhorn, 6-1 and Karina and Bedon dropped to Princeton's Alanna Wolff and Sivan Krems, 6-4.
On Saturday, Bedon, Karina and Okajima all moved on in the Singles Flight B consolation matches, with Karina moving on to the semi-final of the bracket. She defeated Yale's Caroline Lynch, 6-1, 7-6(1) and Delaware's Fiorella Coria, 7-6(6), 6-1.
On Sunday, Karina and Bedon were able to win the Doubles B consolation matches, after they defeated Coria and her partner Ryshena Providence, 6-1.
The ladies will be back in action on Saturday, October 10 as they take on Philadelphia. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Legacy Tennis Courts.
