TUVB Sweeps UCF on White Out Night

PHILADELPHIA – Trailing 23-20 near the end of the first set, Temple Volleyball rallied for five-straight points to win the first set 25-23 and never looked back in a 3-0 win over UCF on Friday night in American Conference Volleyball action. Temple (19-8, 10-5 American) never trailed in the final two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-16 over the Knights (14-13, 8-7 American).
The Owls, who hit .282 as a team in the win, got a match-high 12 kills from sophomore Izzy Rapacz. Rapacz hit .611 (12-1-18) with nine kills coming from both sophomore Irem Asci and junior Kirsten Overton. Junior outside hitter Tyler Davis had eight kills, while Asci had three aces.
Senior setter Sandra Sydlik had 38 assists on 43 total kills. Defensively, senior libero Alyssa Drachslin had 17 digs, with senior defensive specialist Kayla Yingling getting 11. Freshman Carla Guennewig had two solo blocks and two block assists, as the Owls had seven team blocks on the evening.
In the first set, UCF controlled most of the way going up 23-20. With UCF serving, Rapacz got an assist from Sydlik to make the score 23-21. A Knight attack error got the Owls within one at 23-22, with a kill from sophomore Dara Peric knotting the score at 23-all.Kills by Overton and Asci gave the Owls the 25-23 victory in set one.
In set two, the Owls darted out to a 5-1 lead and were never threatened, going up by as much as 12. The final set saw Temple score four straight points to break open a 2-2 tie and the Owls led the rest of the third set.
Temple hosts USF on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
