News & Notes Following Temple's 31-12 win vs. Memphis

Temple beat a ranked team for the fourth time ever and the first time in consecutive seasons.

Of the six losses suffered in 2014, Temple is 4-0 in rematches against those teams (Penn State, UCF, east Carolina and Memphis; have not faced Houston or Navy).

Temple held an opponent without a TD for the second time this season (Charlotte) and the third time without an offensive TD (UCF).

Temple's defense has allowed just five TDs in five home games – three against Notre Dame, one each against Penn State and Tulane.

Following a game at USF in which they allowed a number of big plays, the Temple defense allowed just two plays of 20+ yards against Memphis (one rushing one passing).

Just one of Temple's 72 offensive plays went for negative yards – a fumble on the game's first series.

The Owls were called for just one penalty – holding on the opening drive that negated a 32-yard run.

Junior QB P.J. Walker threw two TD passes and now has 50 for his career. He now owns the Temple record for most TD passes ahead of Henry Burris' 49 collected from 1993-96. On the day, Walker threw for 261 yards added 49 yards on the ground.

Senior LB Tyler Matakevich once again led the Owls in tackles - his 11 stops were his fourth double-digit output of the season. He is the only player in FBS to lead his team in tackle sin every game this season. He now has 107 for the season giving him four seasons of 100+ tackles – he joins just six other players in college football history tom accomplish that feat – Rick Razzano, Virginia Tech (1974-77); Carl McGee, Duke (1975-78); Dan Bass, Michigan State (1976-79); Stephen Boyd, Boston College (1991-94); Dana Howard, Illinois (1991-94); and Marcus McGraw, Houston (2008-11).

Junior RB Jahad Thomas had a streak of 10 games with a TD broken. The junior running back saw limited action due to injury.

Two tight ends, redshirt senior Saledeem Major and redshirt freshman Kip Patton scored their first career touchdowns. Major had a 19-yard 4th quarter receptions while Patton earned his with a 13-yard run.

Redshirt freshman RB David Hood earned a start and an increased role in the offense and responded by leading the Owls with 14 carries, 61 yards and his first career rushing TD.

Also contributing with big plays were senior WR Brandon Shippen with a career long 49 yard reception and redshirt junior TE Colin Thompson with a 34-yard reception (he entered the game with 3 catches and 22 yards on the season).
