11.4.15 | Field Hockey
NEW YORK - Four senior Temple field hockey players have been recognized with BIG EAST Conference postseason awards, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Sarah Deck and Alyssa Delp have both earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors, while Tricia Light and Haley Mitchell have been named to the BIG EAST Second Team.
"These four women showed great skill, consistency and tenacity all season," said Temple head coach Marybeth Freeman. "They each give something different to the program and within the team, but their common trait is their ability to put words into action. To have Alyssa, Sarah, Haley and Tricia represent Temple with these conference honors is a testament to their dedication and hard work this season. As a staff, program and University, we've very proud of each of their accomplishments."
Delp, who was a unanimous selection to the first team, earns a conference honor for a second year in a row after being named to the BIG EAST Second Team as a junior. She leads Temple with 13 goals this season, which ranks in a tie for third among all players in the league. Her five assists rank second on the team, giving her 31 total points to rank fourth in the conference. On Oct. 28, it was announced that Delp was one of 38 seniors selected to play in the NFHCA Division I?Senior Game on Nov. 21.
Deck is second on the team this season with seven goals and 18 total points. Her first-half goal at #12 Old Dominion on Oct. 20 proved to be the lone tally and the game-winner, giving the Owls an upset victory that has since sparked a four-game win streak. Deck's career totals include 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 total points in her career as an Owl.
Leading the Owls in assists is Light, who has tallied seven of them so far this season. She has also scored five goals for 17 total points. In her four-year career, Light has amassed 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points.
Mitchell has been Temple's starting goalkeeper in every game this season, and has twice been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. She ranks second in the BIG EAST in saves with 111, and in saves per game at 5.84. She came up big with 10 saves in the Owls' 1-0 win at #12 ODU, and has recorded 10 or more saves four times this season.Â
The Owls enter this weekend's BIG EAST Tournament as the second seed, and will face third-seeded Villanova on Friday, Nov. 6 at 4:30 p.m. Old Dominion is serving as the host of the tournament, and details as well as ticket information can be found HERE.
