Women's Tennis Serves Local Community

11.9.15 | Women's Tennis, Outreach

PHILADELPHIA - This past weekend, the Temple women's tennis team took a break from preparing for the spring season and helped served those in the Philadelphia community.

Over the weekend, the team and head coach Steve Mauro volunteered at the Sunday Morning Breakfast Mission, serving meals to those in need.

"This is a program that both of our teams have been involved with the past four or five years. We feel very honored and privileged to help out to our home area of North Philadelphia," said Mauro. "We're grateful for the position we're in and giving back is something we try to do on a regular."

The third-oldest rescue in the country, Sunday Morning Breakfast Mission has been committed to helping the homeless in the city of Philadelphia since 1878. They offer a meal service program, with three meals a day, and men's shelter in Center City, while providing a transitional home for women in Germantown.

While the teams continue to serve at TU Pavilion on North Broad, they will also continue their surrounding community.

"We will continue to support this great organization and look forward to their next event," said Mauro.

The women's tennis team will open its spring season at the City Six Invitational on January 24.
