Women's Basketball Hosts Delaware State on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team hosts Delaware State on Saturday as part of a doubleheader at the Liacouras Center. The Owl women will tip-off at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Temple men vs. Delaware State at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available at: owltix.com.
Temple is 5-4 on the season and will be looking for its third-straight victory. The Owls are coming off a 57-44 win on the road at Fordham on Saturday. Against the Rams, Temple jumped out to a large lead at the break and then held on as Fordham used a fourth-quarter charge to get back into the game. The Owls held the Rams to 35% shooting in the second half and out-rebounded Fordham, 23-16 in the frame to close out the win.
Temple had a balanced offense, led by 14 points and seven rebounds from sophomore Donnaizha Fountain. The transfer guard has improved her Temple career-high in points in each of the last three games. Sophomore Alliya Butts had 12 points and a pair of steals, while junior Feyonda Fitzgerald had 10 points, five assists and four steals in the win.
For the season, Fitzgerald leads the Owls with 17.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Butts, the reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, has averaged 14.0 points an outing, while classmate Tanaya Atkinson chips in with 10.8 points and 5.7 boards a game. Also padding the stat sheet for the Owls, senior Erica Covile averages 9.0 points and 6.7 rebounds, while Fountain adds 8.8 points and 6.1 rebounds. As a team, the Owls are averaging 67.2 points per game, shooting 41% from the field and 33.1% from three.
Delaware State enters Saturday's game with a 2-7 record, most recently recording a 66-44 win against Wagner on Sunday at home. In that game, four players scored in double figures, led by a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) from NaJai Pollard. Mikah Aldridge led all scorers with 17 points, while Amber Bogard (12 points) and Bobbi Floyd (10 points) rounded out the offense.
On the season, Aldridge leads the Hornets attack with 12.1 points per game and has a team-best 18 total steals. Bogard averages 10.4 points a game, while Pollard chips in with 7.9 points and a team-high 6.2 rebounds a contest. Pollard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the time this season on Monday.
As a team, Delaware State scores 53.4 points per game on 33.9% shooting from the field. The Hornets shoot just 20.9% from three, but are making over 70% from the free throw line.Â
Temple leads the all-time series against DSU, 3-0, dating back to 1984. The teams haven't met since 1997 when Temple came away with a 72-54 win at home.
