Women's Gymnastics Finishes Second in Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's gymnastics placed second with a team score of 191.7 in the Eighth Annual Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon in McGonigle Hall.  Bridgeport won the invitational with a team score of 194.375 while West Chester (190.575) finished third.

The Owls opened up on vault and earned a team score of 48.05 on the event, setting a season-high score.  Lauren Capone went last in the event and had the top score for Temple with a 9.75.  Jasmine Johnson and Briana Odom finished right behind her, with both earning a 9.625.  Gina Tucker set a season-high on the event with a 9.575.

Temple then moved on to bars and got a 47.275. Kerry Arone once again performed a solid routine that led Temple in the event with a 9.7.  Victoria Reggiani almost tied a season high with a 9.6.  Alexis Arena improved her season-high on the event with a 9.425.

On beam the Owls earned a team score of 47.85.  Odom and Arena tied for the best score on the team with a 9.775.  The score was a season-high for Odom.  Capone's routine garnered a 9.675 on the event.  Stephanie Verry almost tied her season-high on the event with a 9.625.

The last event for Temple was floor, and the Owls earned their highest team score on an event with a 48.525. The team score was the highest score of the four events all season.  Johnson set a season-high with her electrifying routine garnering a 9.825. Verry posted a solid 9.75. Arone, Alexandra Forcucci and Capone all earned a 9.65.  Michaela Lapent led off on the event for Temple and got a 9.6.

Capone was once again the lone all-around competitor for the Owls.  She earned a combined 38.225 on all four events.

The home meet was the last one for six senior gymnasts.  Taylor Rakus, Natali Ruzich, Arena, Capone, Forcucci and Verry were all honored after the competition of the meet to recognize their time spent donning the cherry and white.

Temple will stay in Eastern Pennsylvania for its next meet, as the Ursinus Bears will host the Owls in a dual meet next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.  Temple was victorious in the previous matchup on Jan. 24th.
