Rosso Joins Temple Gymnastics Staff
7.27.15 | Women's Gymnastics
PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's gymnastics head coach Umme Salim-Beasley has announced the hiring of Michael Rosso as assistant coach for the Owls. Rosso is a 2015 graduate of Rutgers University, where he spent two years as a volunteer assistant coach for the Scarlet Knights.
"Michael has great knowledge of the sport. He's always very interested in learning more and has the ability to enhance his spotting and drilling ability, which will help out quite a bit," said Salim-Beasley. "I am excited he wants to enter collegiate gymnastics and make his mark. It's also exciting to bring in the energy of someone who is new to collegiate gymnastics and wants to push this program to new heights."
While studying communications at Rutgers, Rosso was a student assistant coach for the women's gymnastics team for two years. His responsibilities included equipment management and set up, gymnastics drill set up, and hands-on spotting on all four events. During his time, Rutgers gymnastics saw its first NCAA regional appearance since 2007 and recorded six of the top 10 highest team scores in program history, including the current record score 196.225.
Rosso was a gymnast at Surgents Elite School of Gymnastics in Roselle Park, N.J., where he was a five-time junior Olympic national qualifier. He also gained valuable experience coaching at numerous camps such as the University of Arkansas, Camp Woodward, and Lake Murray Gymnastics Camp in Columbia, S.C.
"For me personally, this opportunity is such a gift that has been brought into my life," said Rosso. "Being here at Temple and being a part of a program that is on the rise is very exciting to me and something I am looking forward to being a part of".
Rosso currently resides in Marlboro, N.J. His brother, Ralph, is an assistant coach for the Arizona State University women's gymnastics team.
