Men's Soccer Ties Drexel 3-3 in Final Preseason Exhibition

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer tied Drexel, 3-3, Friday night at the Dragons' Vidas Field in its final preseason exhibition match.

The Owls came out strong with a goal in the 11th minute. Freshman Jorge Gomez Sanchez headed in a nice cross from junior Matt Mahoney.

Just seven minutes later, Temple newcomers Hermann Doerner and Carlos Moros Garcia teamed up for another Owl tally. Moros Garcia headed home a corner kick served by Doerner.

Temple completed its first half explosion with junior Stefan Mueller finding Gomez Sanchez on a long pass over several Dragon defenders. Gomez Sanchez blasted it past the Drexel keeper for his second goal of the match.

The Dragons answered quickly in the second half, scoring off a penalty kick in the 46th minute for their first goal. The home team scored twice more in a three-minute stretch late in the game. At that point the Owls had only two starters remaining on the pitch.

Temple nearly scored in the final seconds of the match on a goal line save from freshman Jordan Wix-Rauch.

Throughout the match head coach David MacWilliams explored the depth of his bench, subbing out majority of the team's starters in the second half. Three goalkeepers were also utilized, with sophomore Alex Cagle playing through the first half, and Patrick Lestingi and Robin Goetz seeing time in the second half.

The Owls now will prepare for their regular season opener against Manhattan this Friday at 4:00 p.m. on the road.
