9.10.15 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey will look for its first win over a ranked opponent this season when the Owls head to #18 Delaware on Friday night at 7 p.m. Temple has gone 2-2 to open the 2015 season, with both of its losses coming to teams ranked in the Top 10 in the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.

Following Friday night's game, the Owls will return home to face city rival Penn at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Fans can follow both games on live stats, while the home game vs. Penn will also feature a free live webcast.

Temple is coming off an exciting, 3-2 home win against city and former conference rival Saint Joseph's on Sept. 7. Junior Paige Gross scored on a cross from sophomore Hattie Kuhns with just over two minutes remaining to break a tie after the Hawks had scored just three and a half minutes earlier. Also scoring for Temple in the win were senior Sarah Deck on a penalty corner, and senior Alyssa Delp on a penalty stroke. In the Owls' other game last weekend, they lost 2-0 at #7 Penn State. Temple had its chances with 12 total shots and five penalty corners, but could not convert.

On Aug. 30, the Owls achieved their most lopsided win in 25 years, taking down Towson 9-0 in College Park, Md. An impressive eight different players scored in the Towson victory, led by senior midfielder Deck with two goals and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Haley Mitchell was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after her efforts that weekend, which included a career-high eight saves in a 4-2 loss to #3 Maryland and another save to preserve the shutout against Towson.
