Women's Soccer Prepares For Next Set Of Matches

PHILADELPHIA – After dropping two close matches, the Temple women's soccer team will be back in action as they head to New Hampshire on September 11. The Owls will then host Binghamton on September 13 at 12:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team.
Last week, the Owls tallied its first loss to city rival Penn, 2-1 on Friday, September 4. Senior Paige Rachel scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute of the game on an assist from sophomore Elana Falcone. It was Rachel's first goal since the 2013 season, after missing last season with a knee injury. Falcone now leads the team with three assists.
Temple also lost a key component to the team, when senior Shauni Kerkhoff was injured during the Penn game and will miss the rest of the season due to a leg injury.
On September 6, the Owls dropped a heartbreaking match to Lehigh, 3-2 in overtime. Falcone picked up her career-high third goal of the season in the fourth minute of the game. After senior Kaylee Harner took a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper, Falcone was able to knock the ball into the net.
Senior Kelly Farrell helped tie things up against the Mountain Hawks in the 56th minute, when the ball landed at her feet after a series of headers and she was able to lightly knock it in for the score. However, Lehigh was able to clinch the win a little over four minutes into overtime, when a series of blocks led to the Mountain Hawks' Madi Morgan finding the ball and an empty spot in the net.
Farrell received American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for her performance against Rider and Lehigh. Farrell collected two goals and combined for 11 shots in the two games. She is tied for first in the conference in goals (5) and goals per game (1.00). Farrell also ranks 15th in the NCAA?in goals scored.
About New Hampshire…
New Hampshire currently sits at 2-1-3, after going 1-0-1 at the TD Bank Classic in Burlington, VT last week. The Wildcats defeated Quinnipiac, 2-1 and tied Kent State, 1-1 in double overtime. Goalkeeper Mimi Borkan ranks first in the America East Conference and 33rd in the NCAA in saves percentage (.889).
About Binghamton…
Binghamton returns 20 letterwinners from last season, including seven of their starters. Senior Stephani Church leads the offense with two goals this season. Goalkeeper Katie Hatziyianis has recorded 24 saves and one shutout while only allowing eight goals be scored against her.
Series History…
New Hampshire leads the series with Temple, 2-0-0. The Wildcats and Owls last met in 2002, where New Hampshire took a 1-0 win.
Temple leads the series with Binghamton, 2-1-0. In the 2014 season opener, the Owls defeated the Bearcats, 2-0.
