Men's Soccer Ranked No. 23 in NSCAA National Poll

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer has been ranked #23 in the nation in the NSCAA Division I Men's National Poll released on Sept. 15. The Owls also are the top-ranked team in the East region. This is the first national ranking for the Owls since 1997, when the team was ranked 19th in week five and 25th in week eight of the NSCAA poll.
"This is a tremendous honor and I am so happy for our young men who have worked so hard in preparation for this season," said Temple University head men's soccer coach David MacWilliams. "Our focus now is on Villanova as we need to continue to keep working and improving each and every match."
This week's ranking comes after the Owls' 2-0 week where they defeated Rider, 3-1, in a come-from-behind victory and shutout Yale, 2-0. Four Owls received weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference and Philadelphia Soccer Six with goalkeeper Alex Cagle being named Goalkeeper of the Week for the third consecutive week. Jorge Gomez Sanchez, Jordan Wix-Rauch, and Brendon Creed also earned honors for their efforts.
Gomez Sanchez currently leads the team in total points and the nation in shots per game with 6.40. He also holds top-five spots nationally in goals per game, points per game, total goals, total points, and shots on goal per game. He was named Offensive Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference and Player of the Week in the Philadelphia Soccer Six.
Temple's record stands at 4-0-1 on the season with two matches this week against city rivals Villanova and Penn. The Owls are now the only ranked team in the American Athletic Conference.
