Women’s Soccer Finishes Non-Conference Play This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – After a perfect 2-0 weekend, the Temple women's soccer team looks to wrap up their non-conference schedule with two city rivals. The Owls will host La Salle tomorrow in a 4:00 p.m. matchup and welcome Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Last weekend, the Owls traveled to New Hampshire and recorded their fourth shutout of the season, defeating the reigning America East champions, 4-0 on September 11.
Senior Kelly Farrell notched two goals, scoring in the 60th and 66th minute of the game. Freshman Sarah McGlinn also recorded two goals against the Wildcats, marking her firsts as an Owl. Her first goal came in the 77th minute on a breakaway run that pulled the goalie out of the net; she then followed up with a score in the 79th minute.
On September 13, Temple returned home to face Binghamton. Senior Erin Lafferty scored two goals in the 4-1 game, giving the Owls three multi-goal scorers on the weekend. In the 32nd minute, Lafferty lined up behind the midfield line for a free kick, with the ball bouncing behind the Bearcats' goalkeeper and into the net. She later scored on a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Lafferty and sophomore Elana Falcone, who scored in the 64th minute, both have four goals on the season and are ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference.
Farrell, who also scored a goal against Binghamton, leads the American Athletic Conference goals scored (8), total points (18), goals per game (1.143), and points per game (2.57). She also leads the NCAA in goals per game and is second in goals scored.
Lafferty picked up American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Farrell was named to the Weekly Honor Roll for the second week in a row.
About La Salle…
• Coming off of their fourth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, La Salle returns six starters. Senior Fia Jonsson leads the team currently with three goals and two assists.
• Goalkeeper Katie Getzinger has recorded 25 saves and two shutouts, while posting a 0.93 goals against average so far this season. Getzinger ranks fourth in the Atlantic-10 Conference in goals against average.
• La Salle is one of five schools that Temple will face this season that made it to the NCAA?tournament last season (UCF, Rider, New Hampshire, and UConn). In the first round of the tournament, the Explorers lost to Rutgers, 2-0.
About Saint Joseph's…
• Saint Joseph's returns six starters, including junior Emily Gingrich. Gingrich led the team with 14 goals last season and first in the Atlantic-10 in points per game (2.17) and goals per game (0.833). She also ranks 11th in the NCAA?in points per game.
• Goalkeepers Allison Ebling and Grace Bendon have split duties so far this season, combining for 23 saves and a 1.49 goals against average.
• The Hawks rank first in the Atlantic-10 and 25th in the NCAA in assists (2.50). They also rank second in the A-10 and 27th nationally in points scored (7.33).
Series History…
• La Salle leads the series, 10-8-2. Last year, the Explorers defeated the Owls, 3-2.
• Saint Joseph's comes into the game with an 11-3-3 record over Temple. In 2014, the Owls shutout the Hawks, 1-0.
