PHILADELPHIA – Under the lights at Rhodes Field #23 Temple men's soccer earned its fifth consecutive win Sunday evening with a 3-0 victory over Soccer Six rival Penn. With this win, the Owls are off to their best season start since 1985 when the team won 13 consecutive games and saw a trip to the NCAA tournament.

"Overall I thought it was a great game," said head coach David MacWilliams. "I thought the guys really came and played well. Penn was a very tough team and it was one of the better games the guys have played all together."

All three goals were punched in by junior Jorge Gomez Sanchez who now boasts 10 total goals on the season and is tied for most goals scored in a season since 2003. Gomez Sanchez also ranks second in the nation in total goals.

The first goal came in the 32nd minute when Dinho Zwane picked up a Quaker turnover and served to Gomez Sanchez who placed a clean shot to the far right post for the only goal of the first half.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Kevin Klett forced a turnover and found Gomez Sanchez who flicked a shot to the back of the net over Quaker goalkeeper Nick Savino.

In the 57th minute Gomez Sanchez rounded out his hat trick off an assist from Justin Stoddart who beat defenders to find Gomez Sanchez in another one-vs-one face off. Gomez Sanchez was able to beat the goalkeeper and tab a third and final goal.

The Owls put the pressure on throughout the entire match posting 16 total shots to the Quakers three with the help of the Owls' strong back line.

Temple now stands at 6-0-1 on the season and return home Wednesday, Sept. 23 to round out Soccer Six play against La Salle at 3 p.m. This will be the Owls' final game before conference action opens up next weekend against Cincinnati Saturday, Sept. 26.
