Temple Golf Tied for 18th After Day One of Hartford Hawk Invitational
9.21.15 | Men's Golf
SOUTH KENT, Ct. - Freshman Trey Wren shot a six -over par 150 (73-77) for his first day as a collegiate golfer to lead Temple to a tie for 18th place after the first day at the Hartford Hawk Invitational. The Invitational is being held at the Bull's Bridge Golf Club.
The start to the Owls season was marred by an injury to senior All-American Brandon Matthews. The DuPont, Pa. native shot a 74 in the opening round before pulling a muscle in his back early in the second round, forcing him to withdraw from the round. His status is uncertain for Tuesday's final round.
Wren is tied for 42nd overall with sophomore John Barone (78-78-156) next for the Owls and tied for 73rd.
Sophomore Mark Farley (75-83, 138) and freshman Gary McCabe (75-89, 164) were tied for 82nd and 102nd, respectively, to round out the squad.
Leading the 20-team field is Connecticut with a 565 overall score. The Huskies are followed by UCF (569), Seton Hall (574), Towson (576), Bryant (578), Rutgers (580), Rhode Island (584), Bethune-Cookman (588), Boston College (599), Fairfield (603), Villanova (603), Fordham (610), Long Island U. –Brooklyn (612), Sacred Heart (613), Stetson (617), Hofstra (617), Temple (624), Massachusetts-Lowell (624), Holy Cross (639).
