#17 Men's Soccer Hosts La Salle in Final Non-Conference Matchup

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off two Philadelphia Soccer Six victories, #17 Temple men's soccer is set to host La Salle Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in its final match before conference action. The Owls stand at 6-0-1 for the season, the program's best start since 1985.
Jorge Gomez Sanchez looks to continue his successful debut season in tomorrow's match. Gomez Sanchez currently boasts 10 goals and two assists for a total of 22 points this season. His 10 goal mark is currently tied for the most goals by a single player in a season since 2003.
Following a hat trick in the match against Penn, Gomez Sanchez was named Offensive Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference for the second consecutive week. He was also named Soccer Six Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, Philly Soccer News' Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, and was named a member of College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.
Gomez Sanchez is also making his mark in the rankings. Nationally, Gomez Sanchez leads in game-winning goals with five total. He sits second in the nation in goals per game, points per game, total goals, total points, and shots per game, while tied for third in shots on goal per game. In the conference, Gomez Sanchez leads in all categories except for assists and assists per game.
Carlos Moros Gracia also earned a weekly honor following his first career goal in the Owls' match against Villanova. He was named Defensive Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference for the second time this season.
Goalkeeper Alex Cagle is another Owl making his mark in the rankings. He sits ninth in the nation in save percentage with a record of 0.875 through seven matches. Cagle was named to the weekly conference honor roll after making seven crucial saves to help the Owls top Villanova, 2-1.
As a team, the Owls are up six spots in the weekly NSCAA National Poll from #23 to #17. This is the program's highest ranking since 1985 when the Owls ranked 11th in the nation in the season's final poll. Temple's win-loss-tie percentage of 0.929 ranks fourth in the nation and its 43 total points ranks 13th. The Owls have also been ranked #25 by Top Drawer Soccer.
The Explorers are coming off an impressive 1-0 victory over UMBC with a game-winning shot from sophomore Joe Hansen. The team now sits at 4-3-0 on the season and enter Wednesday's match in search of its fourth consecutive win.
Temple leads the series over the Explorers 47-17-3 heading into the teams' 68th matchup. The last match in 2014 ended in a 2-2 draw.
