Digging Deeper with Temple Volleyball: Overton & Bevenour

9.22.15 | Women's Volleyball

Throughout the 2015 season, two volleyball student-athletes will be featured in our "Digging Deeper" player features each week. This week, get to know junior Kirsten Overton and sophomore Geena Bevenour.

How long have you been playing volleyball and how did you start?
Overton: Since I was 12, It was on the list of sports my parents tried to make me play and it was the only one that stuck haha!
Bevenour: I have been playing volleyball for 10 years, since 4th grade!r.

What is your dream job?
Overton: My dream job would be to edit major motion pictures, or music videos.
Bevenour: I have a number of dream jobs - marine photographer, country concert event planner, or a sportscaster for ESPN.

If you could play any sport (other than volleyball, of course) what would it be and why?
Overton: It would be gymnastics, because I've always wanted to do flips and routines and be able to do a handstand.
Bevenour: I would play soccer. I played from about kindergarden through 9th grade. Or gymnastics, that would be awesome.

What is your pre-match ritual?
Overton: Grab an iced coffee and jam out to my music.
Bevenour: Usually I'm the team DJ in the locker room, so I focus on making hype playlists so we all get excited and focused.

Who is the best dancer on the team?
Overton: Dara or Izzy.
Bevenour: Dara, definitely Dara.

What is your dream vacation destination and why?
Overton: My dream vacation would be to go to either Greece or Tokyo because I want to experience a culture very different from my own.
Bevenour: I would love to go to Tahiti and stay in one of those hotel rooms out in the ocean. I love the beach more than anything. An Alaskan cruise would be cool too, though.

What has been your favorite memory of playing volleyball at Temple?
Overton: Too many to name!
Bevenour: Multiple things. Winning against SMU on our 2014 Dig Pink game, seeing the crowd at this year's opening game against Oregon, but most of all dying of laughter in the locker room at inside jokes with the team who has become like family.
