#17 Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss to Cincinnati, 3-2

9.26.15 | Men's Soccer

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The 17th ranked Temple men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday evening, falling 3-2 to conference rival Cincinnati. The Owls now stand at 7-1-1 this season.

Cincinnati took the early lead in the matchup, with the Bearcats' Terence Carter posting the first goal off a corner kick in the seventh minute. Jorge Gomez Sanchez quickly answered, putting the Owls on the board two minutes later off a free kick to the top left corner.

In the 20th minute, junior captain Matt Mahoney grabbed a one touch from Gomez Sanchez and slid in to touch in the Owls' second goal. Mahoney's first goal of the season put the Owls in the lead through the remainder of the first half.

The second half saw slow action with just one shot on goal until the 77th minute when the Bearcats' Alejandro Garcia knocked in a game-equalizing goal. Less than 10 minutes later, Garcia struck again to put the Bearcats ahead 3-2 with less than six minutes remaining.

Despite falling to the Bearcats, the Owls were able to outshoot them 15-8 throughout the match with goalkeeper Alex Cagle logging one save.

The Owls now get set for a non-conference matchup against Delaware on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
