Football Travels to Charlotte for Third Straight Road Game

9.28.15 | Football

PHILADELPHIA - The Owls, coming off a bye week, travel to Charlotte to face the 49ers at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Temple enters the game receiving votes in both major polls, ranked highest among American Athletic Conference members. Charlotte enters the game after losing 17-7 to Florida Atlantic in Conference USA play. Temple will host Charlotte next season. Charlotte begins its first year of FBS play under head coach Brad Lambert.

The program started up in 2013 and played the past two seasons in the FCS. Temple's offense has spurred the team's first 3-0 since 2010. Junior quarterback P.J Walker has found his rhythm and proven an effective field general. He set a new career high with 391 yards in the win at UMass, the last 50 coming on a last-minute drive to set up the game-winning field goal from Austin Jones. The Owls also boast the top rusher in the conference, P.J.'s high school teammate Jahad Thomas. The junior running back has eclipsed his 2014 yardage total in just three games and provides an explosive threat on passing routes as well. Temple's core of lengthy receivers, led by senior Robby Anderson and sophomore Adonis Jennings, will test Branden Dozier and the 49ers secondary.

The 49ers offense will contend with a deep and experienced Temple defense. Led by senior linebacker Tyler Matakevich, senior defensive backs Will Hayes, Alex Wells, and Tavon Young, and senior defensive lineman Hershey Walton and Matt Ioannidis, the Owls continue their strong play from last season. The second-best rush defense in the conference will look to contain running backs Kalif Phillips and Andrew Buie. The pass rush, led by senior Nate D. Smith and his conference-leading 4.0 sacks, will challenge the 49ers rotating quarterbacks. The Owls secondary enters the game avering two picks per game, best in the American.

The Last Time
This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
