Three Men's Soccer Players Named to Weekly Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three men's soccer players have been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll following the Owls' 1-1 week. Jorge Gomez Sanchez, Matt Mahoney and Belal Mohamed each earned their spot after impressive goals and strong efforts through both matches of the week.
Mahoney earned his first goal of the season in the Owls' 3-2 loss against Cincinnati. He was able to make a sliding goal in the 20th minute off a one touch from Gomez Sanchez to pull the Owls ahead of the Bearcats in the first half. Mahoney also played all 90 minutes in both games, making strong defensive contributions including helping limit the La Salle Explorers to only one goal and six total shots despite their nine corner kick attempts.
Gomez Sanchez logged one goal and one assist on the weekend. He scored a game-equalizer in the Owls' match against Cincinnati off a free kick just two minutes after the Bearcats stuck their first goal. Gomez Sanchez was then able to log the assist to Mahoney for the Owls' final goal of the game. Gomez Sanchez now boasts 11 goals and three assists this season for a total of 25 points through nine matches.
Mohamed logged his first career goal in the Owls' 4-1 victory over La Salle on Sept. 23. Mohamed scored the first goal of the game in a one-on-one battle with the Explorers' goalkeeper. Mohamed now boasts one goal and two assists through nine matches and has started in the four of the Owls' matches in his debut season.
