Track & Field Set to Compete at the Great Dane Classic

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's track and field continues its 2016 indoor season with a second trip to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University of Albany on Saturday, Jan. 16. The first event is set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
In this large meet, which will feature 1,500 athletes from more than 60 schools and clubs, the Owls will be participating in 13 events. Twenty Temple athletes will take to the track and look to improve on times and placements in the same venue they competed in one week prior.
Last weekend, the Owls brought home three bronze medals in three events. Senior Jimmia McCluskey placed third overall in the long jump with a 5.66 meter mark, just short of her personal best jump of 5.83 meters. McCluskey, along with classmate Imani Shell, will be competing in the long jump on Saturday.
Junior Simone Brownlee earned her bronze medal in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.91 seconds. Kenya Gaston was the final Owl to land a spot in the top three, running the 400 meter race in a time of 56.82 seconds.
The 60 meter hurdles is the first event of the Great Dane Classic and will feature freshman Sylvia Wilson, who earned the gold in the event at her collegiate debut in December, senior Sydnee Jacques and Brownlee.
Distance runners from Temple will also be featured at the meet, with runners competing in the mile, 1,000 meter and 3,000 meter races.
