Track & Field to Compete at Gotham Cup

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's track & field is set for its third straight meet at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. Hosted by New York University, the Gotham Cup is set to kick off today at 12:30 p.m. with the 3000 meter race. There will be 16 Owls hitting the track in 10 different events for today's meet.
New to this weekend's competition will be a distance medley relay, as well as one Owl competing in the shot put. Freshmen Alexis O'Shea, Aliya Sharp, Brigit Andersson, and Katie Leisher will be the first group of 2016 to participate in the distance medley relay. Freshman Crystal Jones will be participating in the shot put.
Last weekend, the team finished the Great Dane Classic with a ninth-place finish out of 26 teams and earned seven new personal bests. Freshman Sylvia Wilson was a standout for the team, performing in the 60 meter hurdles finals and taking seventh place after running a personal-best mark of 8.63 seconds in the preliminaries.
Mid-distance runners Maya Halprin-Adams, Katie Pinson, and Andersson competed in the 3000 meter race. These Owls earned top-20 placements in the difficult race, with Halprin-Adams earning a personal-best 3:03.50 mark.
Halprin-Adams, Andersson and O'Shea will be running the 800 meter race today, with Erica Groomes and Gabriela Rodriguez running the 1000 meter race.
The Owls will also be featured in the long jump and triple jump, along with shorter distance races such as the 200 meter, 400 meter and 60 meter hurdles.
