Women's Basketball Travels to ECU for Saturday Clash

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team will play on the road at East Carolina for the first time ever on Saturday, heading south for a 2:30 p.m. match-up with the Pirates on ESPN3.
The Owls
• Temple is 12-7 overall and 6-2 in the American.
• Last time out, Temple used a 16-2 run late in the fourth to seal a 72-54 win on the road at Tulane.Â
• Four Owls finished in double-figures in scoring, led by 22 from Alliya Butts. Tanaya Atkinson finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Feyonda Fitzgerald had 12 points and five boards.Â
• Erica Covile notched her 12th career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.Â
• For the year, Butts leads the Owls with 15.8 points per game, while grabbing 48 steals. Fitzgerald is second with 14.3 points per game, averaging a team-high 5.0 assists per game.Â
• Atkinson averages 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, while Covile (8.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Fountain (8.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg) bolster the Owls on both ends of the floor.Â
The Pirates
• East Carolina is 9-11 overall, 3-5 in The American. Three of the Pirates' five conference losses came by five points or less, including an overtime loss to Tulsa.
• ECU also played Tulane on the road in their last game, a 78-73 loss last Tuesday.Â
• Against Tulane, Jada Payne notched 28 points including a 4-for-6 day from three. Marina Laramie added 12 points, while I'Tiana Taylor and DeVaughn Gray chipped in 10 points apiece in the setback.Â
• For the year, Payne leads ECU with 20.3 points per game, one of three players nationally to average 20+ points per game, shooting over 50%. She also averages 9.4 boards per game, second on the team.
• Taylor averages a double-double of 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds an outing, while Laramie contributes 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.Â
Temple vs. ECU
• The teams split a pair of meetings last season, the only two match-ups between Temple and ECU.
• Temple took the first meeting, a 79-69 win in Philadelphia, while ECU got its revenge with a 77-71 win in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament.Â
• Temple Associate Head Coach, Way Veney, is a 2000 graduate of ECU where she was a two-year starter for the Pirates, earning All-CAA honors in both seasons.Â
