WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Temple women's gymnastics returned to their 2016 campaign Friday night with a second place finish at a quad meet hosted by West Chester University. The Owls totaled a 189.575 led by the bar team's 47.70. The Rams took first with a 190.875 and the Owls earned wins over Ursinus College (186.925) and Centenary College (177.90).
"I was very proud of the way the girls finished on bars," said head coach Umme-Salim-Beasley. "We had a girl go down today and they all dealt with the lineup changes very well. They still went out and attacked their routines."
Junior captain Briana Odom ends her day with two event titles and a silver medal in the all-around. Odom logged a 38.70 for her performances on all four events and fell just 0.075 behind all-around winner Majesta Valentine of West Chester. Odom logged a 9.65 on vault, bars and beam, and closed out her night with a 9.75 on the floor.
Sophomore Sahara Gipson matched Odom's vault score of 9.65 to share the first place title on the event. Odom and Gipson also tied on bars with a score of 9.65 and were joined by freshman Breahna Wiczkowski to make a three-way tie for the bar title. Wiczkowski's bar work also marks her a season-high on the event.
Despite totaling a 47.025 for the entire beam rotation, Reagan Oliveri, Kayla Kennedy and Odom were able to post strong performances. Kennedy earned a season-high 9.65 to tie with Odom and Oliveri anchored the line up with a 9.6.
Freshman India Anderson continued her success on vault and floor with hits on both events, earning a 9.575 on vault and a 9.55 on floor.
The Owls will face West Chester and Ursinus again next weekend, along with Penn and Southern Connecticut State, at Temple's home opener. The Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational is set for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1:00 p.m.
