Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Battle with Columbia, 1-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a tough fought battle through 95 minutes, Temple men's soccer dropped its fourth match of the season, falling to the Columbia Lions 1-0.
The Owls now stand at 8-4-1 on the season and remain in a tie for fourth place in the American Athletic Conference with a 1-1-1 record.
Evenly matched throughout the majority of the first half, the Owls posted five shots to the Lions' four. Both goalkeepers tallied two crucial saves to uphold the scoreless draw heading into halftime.
Shots in the first half came from all positions on the field. Stefan Mueller, Mark Grasela, Nick Sarver and Albert Moreno all posted shots within the first 11 minutes of game play.
The second half played out much the same with back and forth possession, with close shots from George McGee and Jorge Gomez Sanchez.
Alex Cagle tabbed a lone save in the second half to help push the game into overtime play.
Seconds into the 95th minute of the first overtime period, Columbia's Kynan Rocks intercepted a clearing kick from Alex Cagle to dribble up the left side and sink a left-footed shot to end the game.
The Owls return to conference play on Saturday with a road trip to face Cincinnati starting at 7 p.m.
