Steinsberger Earns His Second Win for Temple

Easton, Pa. – On Saturday, men's cross country earned three top-ten finishes at the Leopard Invitational hosted by Lafayette College. Graduate student Marc Steinsberger reamed to the front of the line earning first place. Steinsberger finished the hilly, 8K course in 25:42.1. Just behind him was sophomore Johnathan Condly with a second-place finish (26:15.4)
"I am very impressed with Johnathan," said head cross country coach James Snyder. "Two weeks ago he did not race well, but today he was able to get back out there and step it up. He has progressed exceptionally well over the past month."
Temple's third-best finisher at the Leopard Invitational was freshman Kevin Lapsansky. Lapsansky earned a top-ten finish among the field of 86 participants (26:31.6). Freshman Zach Seiger was the Owls' fourth best (26:57.8). The squad finished with a second place overall finish among seven teams, edging fellow Big 5 school, St. Joseph's.
"Today we went into the race knowing it would be small field," said Snyder. "I encouraged them to find each other during the race and work together. Donovan Mears, Tyji Mays, and David Fitzgerald rounded out our squad, helping us achieve a second-place finish."
The Owls still have some work to do in order to be powerful contenders at the conference championship in two weeks.
"In order to accomplish what we are capable of at the conference meet we have to continue to work together," Snyder stated. "Today Zach did a great job of getting back into competition after slight injury and running through the field. He proved to be someone we will lean on at the conference meet. Zach, Kevin, and Donovan have put themselves in a position this season to be great contributors to the program."
Men's cross country will compete at the American Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 29 at the University of Cincinnati.
