Women’s Cross Country Sweeps Competition at the Leopard Invitational
10.15.16 | Women's Cross Country
Easton, Pa. – Temple women's cross country took first place overall at the Leopard Invitational, hosted by Lafayette College, on Saturday. Freshman Grace Moore bested the field, finishing the 6K race in 22:17.2. Within eight seconds, sophomore Katie Leisher crossed the finish line earning second place (22:25.7).
"At the beginnings of the race, a runner from Lafayette was far in the lead," head coach James Snyder explained. "Grace and Katie worked together to catch up to her and eventually were able to run ahead."
Freshman Mille Howard (22:54.3) and senior Megan Schneider (23:35.8) were Temple's third and fourth best finishers. Each placed in the top-ten earning fifth and eighth places respectively.
"The biggest highlight of the meet was Megan's performance," said Snyder. "She was our fourth finisher and as a senior, her cross country career is winding down. Her performance today was a testament to her understanding of that urgency and wanting to make a statement in her last season."
The course at Lafayette was the most challenging course Temple cross country has ran on this season. Its rolling hills and great number of turns make it out to be a slow and condensed run. The challenge gives women's cross country the diversity needed to further prepare themselves for the most important meet of the season, the conference championship.
Women's cross country will compete at the American Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 29 at the University of Cincinnati.
