Gomez Sanchez and Moros Gracia Placed on 2016 ECAC Division I All-Star Team
11.30.16 | Men's Soccer
DANBURY, Conn. – Following the completion of the 2016 season, the ECAC has announced its Division I Men's Soccer Players of the Year and All-Star Team. Temple seniors Jorge Gomez Sanchez and Carlos Moros Gracia have both been recognized in the awards. Gomez Sanchez has been named to the All-Star First Team and Moros Gracia earned an honorable mention.
The pair was previously named First Team All-Conference by the American and were a name stake for the Owls throughout both 2015 and 2016. Their first-team recognition was the programs' first since entry into the Conference in 2013.
Gomez Sanchez put up 14 goals and three assists for a total of 31 points on the year in 2016 to account for nearly half of the team's total points. He now ranks in a tie for fifth all-time in career goals and fifth in single-season goals. His 62 career points places him ninth in the all-time rankings as well.
Moros Gracia, who has barely missed a single minute of play across his two seasons with the Owls, helped lead a 2016 back line that allowed only three goals in the inaugural, unbeaten season at the Temple Sports Complex. He notched one goal and one assist for the season.
Joining the Owls on the ECAC All-Star team from the American Athletic Conference is Jake Nerwinski of UConn. UMass Lowell took home two major awards in the Rookie of the Year, Ivan Abramovic, and Coach of the Year, Christian Figueroa. St. Francis Brooklyn was the only school to have two first-team honorees in Collyns Laokandi and Roberto Bazzichetto.
