Fencing Set to Compete at Sacred Heart Tradition Tournament on Sunday
12.2.16 | Women's Fencing
PHILADELPHIA - One month removed from its first dual meets of the season, Temple fencing will compete against rival teams once again this weekend as the Owls head to the Sacred Heart Tradition Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 4.
The action begins at noon for Temple against NYU, followed by bouts against Harvard at 2 p.m. Temple will face host Sacred Heart at 3 p.m. and then close out the day against Vassar at 4 p.m.
One of the more challenging teams to face will undoubtedly be Harvard, who handed Temple its only loss at this meet a year ago.
"We are very excited to finish the fall semester with the Tradition Tournament at Sacred Heart University," said head coach Dr. Nikki Franke. "The team has been working very hard to prepare and wants to have a good showing before exams and going home for Winter Break. Last year at this meet we finished 3-1 with our only loss coming against nationally ranked Harvard. We hope to avenge that loss this year and finish the semester on a high note."
As a team, the Owls' last tournament was an individual one at Penn State on Nov. 19. Freshman Malia Hee was the top finisher there, taking first place in sabre. The Owls also have one round of dual meets under their belts already, after competing at Penn's Elite Invitational on Nov. 5. Temple finished 4-2 at that meet, only narrowly losing by a single point to defending national champion Columbia and to last year's third place team, Notre Dame.
Temple will take a long break from dual meets after Sunday, returning to action in mid-January to begin two months of intense competition.
