Lacrosse Dominates City Rival La Salle, 13-2

2.17.16 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA -  With a hat trick in just the first 17 minutes, senior Kirstie Connor set the tone for what became a dominating win for Temple lacrosse against La Salle on Wednesday afternoon. The Owls (1-1) shut out the Explorers (0-1) in the first half, and went on to win 13-2.

Also scoring multiple goals for Temple were senior Megan Pinkerton and junior Morgan Glassford with two apiece. Senior Brenda McDermott assisted on three of the Owls' goals, while senior Rachel Schwaab added two assists to one goal. Seniors Nicole Tiernan and Megan Tiernan both scored in the win, with the latter adding an assist.

"I was just really excited about how assertively we played today," said Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen. "La Salle is always a really difficult team to play and it was great to take a game from the start against them. It was really a wonderful game for our team from our goalkeeping through to our offense."

Connor's first two goals came in just over six minutes of action, and after a Pinkerton goal in the 15th minute, Connor added a third to complete the hat trick and make it 4-0 Temple. Before halftime, sophomore Nicole Barretta scored Temple's third free-position goal in a row to give the Owls a 5-0 lead at the break.

Temple added one more before La Salle got on the board in the fifth minute of the second half. Katelyn Fay scored the goal for the Explorers, and she went on to score the second for her team with just over a minute left in the game.

After La Salle's first goal, Temple ran off seven in a row. McDermott assisted on three in a row in that stretch, the first by sophomore Anna Frederick before Glassford and Schwaab also scored. Wrapping up the Owls' scoring was junior Carly Demato with the 13th goal in the 57th minute of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Jaqi Kakalecik made two saves and picked up four ground balls to help the defense. Connor, senior Kari Longstaff and senior Summer Jaros all forced two turnovers on La Salle, and Glassford finished with a team-best five draw controls for Temple.

The Owls will be back in action at home on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. against UC Davis.
