LORETTO, Pa. – The Temple men's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight in a row, picking up a 6-1 road victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday.
The Owls started off strong in doubles, as Artem Kapshuk and Nicolas Paulus defated Rodrigo Tico and Robin van der Hejiden, 6-1 at the second flight. Uladzimir Dorash and Florian Mayer clinched the point at the third flight with a 6-2 victory over Plamen Avuski and Jan Vit Suntar.
The Red Flash tied things up at 1-1 at the start of singles play, as Suntar defeated Paulus, 6-4, 6-4 at the third flight. Kapshuk picked up a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 first flight victory over Washi Gervais, while Santiago Canete took down Alec Dylan Foo-Kune, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3. Dorash helped to clinch the match for Temple after defeating Tico, 6-0, 6-3 at the fourth flight.
"This was another good win for the guys today to keep the streak going. I'm really happy again with the way they came out and played double - our doubles play is getting stronger and stronger as the season progresses," said head coach Steve Mauro. "In singles, all six starters played really well. So far, I'm really happy with the guys' effort in practice and in match play. Hopefully we'll continue our streak as we head into a tough match next week."
The Owls move to 10-1, 2-0 The American on the season and will come back to Philadelphia to face Quinnipiac at Upper Dublin Sports Center on February 27 at 5:00 p.m.
