Gymnastics Posts 191.625 at the Pink Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – In a packed house at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Temple women's gymnastics logged a team score of 191.625 to match their second-highest team score of 2016 and take fourth overall. No. 23 West Virginia took the team title for the night with a 196.225. Penn State took second with a 195.675 followed by West Chester's 193.475. Southern Connecticut finished behind the Owls with a 188.7.
Opening the meet on floor, the Owls led off with a slow start highlighted by Sahara Gipson's 9.7 performance. India Anderson, who has consistently scored above a 9.65 in the past four meets, notched a 9.675 for her performance. A small step out of bounds led Briana Odom to a 9.6 and Reagan Oliveri added a 9.45 to the event's 47.325 total.
The Owls' vault team once again bested its total event score with a 48.3 led by Gipson's 9.8. Also hitting a season-high mark on the event was Aya Mahgoub with a 9.75. Odom and Anderson continued their vault consistency with a 9.65 and 9.625, respectively. Oliveri rounded out the lineup with a 9.475.
The bar team saw three stuck dismounts on their way to a 48.225 event total. Oliveri led the Owls to their second highest event score of the season with a 9.725. Breahna Wiczkowski followed closely with a 9.7 and Alexa Phillip anchored the lineup to earn a 9.625. Odom and Michaela Lapent also added solid scores, with Odom posting a 9.675 and Lapent logging a 9.5.
Closing the meet on beam, the Owls wrapped up with a second season-high event total, collecting a 47.775 on the event. Both Gipson and Wiczkowski posted scores of 9.675 and were helped out by Odom and Oliveri' 9.55 performances. Victoria Reggiani rounded out the scores for the event with a 9.325.
All three all-around competitors for Temple scored above a 38.0. Odom had the top score with a 38.475. Gipson earned a season-high 38.375, besting her all-around mark from last weekend by .025. Oliveri, in her fourth meet back in the all-around, also posted a season-best score with a 38.2.
The Owls hit the road in preparation for their second meet of the weekend at Ithaca College. The five-team meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
