Women's Gymnastics Places Second at Eighth Annual Ken Anderson Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – In the Owls' home opener, the Temple women's gymnastics team earned its second highest score of the season with a 191.175. The Tribe of William & Mary edged out the Owls with a 191.375 to take home the team gold. Following the Owls was West Chester (190.975), Southern Connecticut State (188.85), and Ursinus (187.70).
Leading the pack for the Owls today was senior captain Reagan Oliveri who competed in the all-around for the first team this season. Oliveri totaled a 38.35 to take third among all all-around competitors. Oliveri was able to take home two event titles after earning a 9.7 on beam and a career-high 9.85 on bars. The bar title was shared with two Tribe members from William & Mary, Briana Gironda and Monica Ouellet.
Bars highlighted the individual events for Owls. The bar lineup scored a season-best 48.85 that topped all other teams on the event. Aside from Oliveri's career-high, Breahna Wiczkowski (9.725) , Briana Odom (9.8), an Sahara Gipson (9.75) each earned season highs for their bar performances.
Floor was another event that totaled more than 48 points. The 48.175 event total is the second-highest for the Owls this season and was led by junior Briana Odom who scored a 9.8. Odom's mark ranked first among all floor competitors. India Anderson matched her season high with an impressive 9.7. Alexa Phillip and Gipson added solid scores of 9.625 and 9.65, respectively. Senior Michaela Lapent rounded out the lineup with a 9.4.
Vault saw consistent scores across the board to total a 47.95, the Owls' second-highest event score of the season. Gipson once again led the rotation, matching her season high with a 9.75 to take second place overall. Freshman Aya Mahgoub earned herself a season-best mark of 9.625 after a few missed weeks on the event. Odom and Anderson both added scores of 9.575 and Oliveri notched a 9.425.
Despite logging an event total score of 46.90 on the beam, Oliveri and Kayla Kennedy both added strong scores. Kennedy earned a 9.525, her second highest score of the season.
West Chester's Majesta Valentine took home the all-around gold with a total all-around mark of 38.875. Valentine was followed by William & Mary's Brittany Stover who logged a 38.625.
The Owls will now prepare for a long road trip to Chicago, Ill. to compete in the IGI Chicago Style Meet. The competition will feature Northern Illinois University, Central Michigan, and the University of Alaska Anchorage. The quad meet is set to take place on Friday, Feb. 12 starting at 7:00 p.m.
