Vault Leads Gymnastics to 190.95 Finish at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the Owls' final meet of the regular season, a team total of 190.95 earned the team a third place finish. The vault team highlighted the night by posting a season-high 48.375. Brown took first with a 193.95 followed by Southern Connecticut (191.0). The Owls grabbed a win over the University of Rhode Island who posted a 170.825.
With a slow start on bars, the Owls totaled a 47.025. The event was led by Michaela Lapent who posted a season-high-matching 9.625. Sahara Gipson added a solid 9.6 and Breahna Wiczkowski bounced back from a fall last weekend with a 9.575 in today's meet.
The Owls' beam lineup logged a 47.175 overall with Kayla Kennedy hitting her best routine of the season in the lead-off position with a score of 9.725. Kennedy's routine ranked third overall among all beam competitors. Gipson posted a 9.7 to match her second-highest score. Wiczkowski added a 9.475 and Reagan Oliveri rounded out the lineup with a 9.375.
The second half of the competition saw two event totals over 48.0. The floor lineup was led by Briana Odom who posted her fourth score of 9.8 or above with a 9.8 in the anchor spot. ECAC Rookie of the Week, India Anderson, hit a 9.725 for her routine. Oliveri hit her season-high mark on the event with a 9.6. Lapent posted a 9.65 and Gipson finished the lineup with a score of 9.575.
Finishing the night, the Owls hit a season-high 48.375 on vault. Aya Mahgoub and Gipson posted an impressive pair of 9.8 scores to close out the lineup and tie for the first-place spot overall. Odom continued her consistency on the event with a 9.675 and Anderson and Oliveri both posted score of 9.55 to lift the Owls to their best vaulting day of the season.
Gipson led the all-around with her season-high score of 38.675 that ranked third overall.
Next weekend Temple will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the ECAC Championships. The Owls are vying to take home the team title for the first time in program history. The competition is to begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19.
