Women’s Soccer Announces 2016 Spring Schedule

3.15.16 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer head coach Seamus O'Connor has announced the team's 2016 spring schedule. The Owls will play eight games in total.

Temple kicks off the spring season at Saint Joseph's on Friday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. The Owls then have a break until Saturday, April 2, when they will face La Salle at 6:00 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Soccer Club. The following day, Temple will travel to Villanova for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.

On April 9, the Owls will host Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. before traveling to The College of New Jersey for a 6:00 p.m. game. Temple will then participate in the Philly Soccer Six Play Day, hosted by Penn on April 16. They will face the Quakers at 2:00 p.m. before taking on Drexel at 3:00 p.m. The Owls' final match of the day will be at 5:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.

"I am very pleased with the quality of the spring schedule we were able to put together.  We are so lucky to have so many great programs in Philadelphia and we are delighted to be part of the Philly 6 Soccer Day on April 16," said O'Connor. "The event will be hosted by Penn and all six Division I programs in the city will participate.  The teams will be divided into two groups.  After the group games, you will play a game against the team with the same ranking from the other group to decide the final overall rankings."

O'Connor hopes that this slate of spring games will help to see who can fill the holes left by the nine seniors that graduated this past season.

"With so many seniors graduating, I need to find out who is ready to step up and become the players we can build our team around," said O'Connor. "We have so many quality opponents on this spring's schedule that our players are going to get tested in every game.  By the end of the spring season, I will definitely know what we need to work on to prepare us for the fall season."

The Owls are coming off a season where they finished 12-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in The American to finish sixth in the conference. The 12 wins posted by the team set a new program record (previous record was 11 set in 1991, 2001 and 2011) and recorded back-to-back seasons of double-digit victories for the first time in program history. The Owls will lose key seniors in second team all-conference selections Kelly Farrell and Erin Lafferty, as well as goalkeeper Shauni Kerkhoff and defenders Paula Jurewicz, Kaylee Harner, Taylor Trusky, and Shannon Senour
