DeCosey, Bond Named to All-Philadelphia Big 5 Teams

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior guard Quenton DeCosey earned First Team All-Philadelphia Big 5 honors while senior forward Jaylen Bond earned Second Team honors. The awards, voted on by the coaches and select media, were announced the league office Monday.Â
Saint Joseph's senior forward DeAndre' Bembry and head coach Phil Martelli were named Big 5 Player and Coach of the Year, respectively. Â

DeCosey, who led Temple in scoring (15.9 ppg) and steals (41), finished his career with 1,513 career points to rank 16th on the Owls' all-time list. He also ranked second on the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and assists (2.6 apg) while being the only player to start all 33 games for the 21-12 American Athletic Conference regular season champions. A First Team All-American Athletic Conference honoree, DeCosey, who scored a game-high 26 points in Temple's 72-70 overtime loss to Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, also grabbed 519 rebounds, dished 251 assists, connected on 166 three-pointers and made 108 steals in his stellar career.

Bond, the captain of Temple's NCAA Tournament team, averaged 10.3 points per game and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game. The Philadelphia native posted his 11th double-double of the season, 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in his final game against Iowa. In his two years at Temple after transferring from Texas, he scored 586 points and grabbed 541 rebounds.Â

Joining DeCosey and Bembry on the All-Big 5 First Team are Villanova standouts Josh Hart and Ryan Arcidiacono as well as Saint Joseph's Isaiah Miles. Besides Bond, the Second Team includes two more Wildcats, Daniel Ochefu and Kris Jenkins, along with La Salle's Jordan Price and Penn's Darien Nelson-Henry.

Price was the Big 5 leading scorer, averaging 19.2 points per game on the season. Miles was the top free throw shooter, connecting on 88.3% of his attempts (136-of-154).

Miles was also named the Big 5's Most Improved Player. Villanova freshman Jalen Brunson was the Big 5 Rookie of the Year while La Salle junior Amar Stukes, an accounting major with a 3.35 GPA, was the Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The Big 5 banquet is Monday, April 11 beginning at 6:30 pm at the Palestra. Tickets are $10 each and are available at the door the night of the banquet. Along with the current season men's and women's award winners, five of the greatest men's basketball teams in Big 5 history, including the 1987-88 Temple Owls, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.Â
