Men's Basketball Eyes Regular Season Title on Sunday at Tulane

3.4.16 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - Looking to clinch at least a share of the American Athletic Conference regular season championship, Temple men's basketball heads to Tulane for a 2 p.m. (EST) match-up on Sunday, March 6 (ESPN3 / 1210 AM WPHT). The game will be shown on a tape delay by The Comcast Network at 7:30 p.m.

Headlines
• If the Owls win at Tulane, they will earn at least a share of the American Athletic Conference regular season title.
• With a 72-62 win vs. Memphis on Thursday, Temple clinched the No. 1 seed in next week's American Athletic Conference Championships. The Owls are atop standings in a tie with SMU at 13-4, but the Mustangs are not eligible for postseason play.
• Five players scored in double figures in the Memphis win, as the Owls achieved that feat for a second time this season after also doing so in a win vs. USF on Feb. 14. Leading the way was senior Jaylen Bond who scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.
• The Owls' other recent win was a nail-biter, 63-61 against UCF on Feb. 27. Senior Quenton DeCosey drained a 15-foot jumper with three seconds remaining to break a tie and lift the Owls to victory.
• Temple's next win will be its 20th of the season, marking the 36th time in program history the team will have won at least 20 games. Head coach Fran Dunphy has led the Owls to seven 20-win seasons in his 10 years at the helm.
• The Owls finished the regular season with 11 home wins, and have now won 10 or more games at home in eight of the last nine seasons.
• Overall, the Owls have won 11 of their last 14 games including a streak of five straight, and they have a 7-2 record against the next five teams in the conference standings.
• Sophomore Obi Enechionyia is averaging 15.3 ppg over the last 11 contests. Enechionyia hit 6-of-9 from long range en route to a career-high 26 points in a win at Houston on Feb. 21, and was also the Owls' leading scorer at Tulsa with 17 points. He led Temple for a third game in a row vs. UCF on Feb. 27 with 18 points.
• The Owls trailed by 10 in the second half at Houston before closing the game with an 8-2 run, capped by two free throws from junior Josh Brown to get the win and avenge a home loss to the Cougars on Jan. 2.
• With 8.0 rebounds per game, Bond leads the team and ranks seventh in the conference.
• DeCosey is Temple's leading scorer this season with 15.8 points per game, ranking third in the conference, and has scored in double figures in 26 of 29 contests. He has scored 1,444 points to tie for 24th all-time in program history. When he scores at least 15 points, the Owls are 13-1 this season.
• With a win vs. #8 SMU on Jan. 24, Temple has now taken down a Top 10 team in seven of the last eight seasons.
• With 7.9 made three-pointers per game, Temple leads all teams in the American Athletic Conference.
• As a team, the Owls lead the nation in fewest turnovers per game at 9.0. They have recorded single digit turnovers in 18 of 29 games, tallying as few as five (vs. Delaware on Nov. 29, at USF on Jan. 31 and vs. Memphis on March 3).
• The Owls have three regular-season wins over Top 25 teams, the most since 1999-00. This season also marks the first since 1998 that the Owls have beaten two Top 25 opponents on the road. Temple has beaten at least one ranked opponent for nine straight seasons.
• Tulane has lost four straight and 10 of its last 12. Both of the Green Wave's wins in that span were in overtime, including a three-OT, 100-92 victory at East Carolina on Feb. 10.
• Senior guard Louis Dabney leads Tulane with 14.5 ppg, while sophomore forward Dylan Osetkowski averages 8.8 rpg to lead the team and rank third in the conference.

Owls Looking for 11th Regular Season Conference Championship
With a win at Tulane on Sunday, Temple would clinch at least a share of the American Athletic Conference regular season championship. The Owls would win the title outright with an SMU loss at Cincinnati. The achievement would mark the 11th time Temple has won a regular season title since joining the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 1982-83 season. The Owls' last such title came in 2011-12, their second-to-last season as a member of the A-10. Five of Temple's 10 A-10 regular season titles were followed by tournament victories, and the Owls earned NCAA Tournament berths in nine of the 10 seasons in which they won an A-10 regular season title.

Head coach Fran Dunphy led Temple to A-10 regular season titles in 2010 and 2012, and has won 12 such titles all-time after leading Penn to 10 Ivy League Championships.
