Women's Rowing Wins Three at City Championships

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's rowing team won three out of five races at the 2016 Kelly Cup, which serves as the unofficial city championships. Overall, every Temple boat finished in second place or higher on the day.

The Owls grabbed victories in the second varsity eight, second varsity four, and novice eight races. The second varsity eight won their race in a time of 6:39.9, outdistancing St. Joseph's (6:44.1), Drexel (6:44.6) and Villanova (7:07.3).

In the second varsity four event, Temple boats finished 1-2. The Owls' true second varsity four won the race in a time of 7:45.5, while an excellent showing from the freshman four saw the crew take second in the same race in 7:53.1. Both Temple boats finished ahead of St. Joseph's (7:57.7) and Drexel (8:37.7) in the race.

The Owls' novice eight boat continued their fantastic season with a win. Temple clocked in at 6:52.7 to take top honors, followed by St. Joseph's (6:57.1), Drexel (7:06.3), and Villanova (7:12.7).

In the varsity eight race, Temple took second overall. Drexel got the win to earn the Kelly Cup, finishing in 6:24.3, while Temple was right behind with a 6:29.0. St. Joseph's (6:35.7) was third, followed by Villanova (6:39.0), Philadelphia University (7:01.1), and La Salle (7:15.9).

Temple's varsity four also nabbed a second place finish. Drexel won the event in 7:23.1, followed closely by the Owls in 7:26.5. St. Joseph's (7:41.7) was third, with Villanova (7:42.6) and Philadelphia University (7:50.8) rounding out the field.
