PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football head coach Matt Rhule was the recipient of the Auxiliary Service Award during the 63rd annual Acres of Diamonds Gala. Temple University Hospital Auxiliary hosted the event at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel on Saturday evening.
The Auxiliary Service Award was given to Rhule "for demonstrating tireless dedication and service to those in need." Since taking over as head coach of the Owls in 2013, Rhule has been committed to many national philanthropic initiatives such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Habitat for Humanity, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Huddle Up for Autism, Special Olympics, and Be the Match. He and his team continue to participate in various community activities rejuvenating churches and interacting with students at local elementary schools.
This year's Acres of Diamonds Gala event will honor Temple University Hospital Nurses led by Chief Nursing Officer, Elizabeth Craig. Temple nurses were given the Diamond Award not only for their dedication, compassion and commitment to patients, but also for their involvement in the community.
In addition to the Diamond Award and Auxiliary Service Award, two other awardees were celebrated and honored. The Cherry and White Award honored GE Healthcare for its partnership and commitment to Temple University Hospital. The Trailblazers Award recognized Joshua M. Cooper, MD, Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Temple University Hospital, as a visionary leader whose pioneering spirit improves health care throughout the community.
Proceeds from the Gala support Temple University Hospital and the patients it serves.
Temple alumnus (SMC '85) David Murphy, 6abc Action News meteorologist emceed the Gala.
