8.29.16 | Men's Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following the first week of regular season games, three men's soccer players have earned weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference and the Philadelphia Soccer Six. Alex Cagle has been named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, with Joonas Jokinen being named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week. Jokinen, along with Carlos Moros Gracia, have also been named to the conference's weekly honor roll.
Cagle, who was recently awarded the American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award, opened his 2016 season without conceding a goal. He logged three saves and helped lead a back line that let a mere nine shots come in from both opponents combined.
Jokinen opened his 2016 campaign with a pair of goals and one game-winner. In the Owls' match against Manhattan, Jokinen scored the second goal of the game in the eighth minute to secure the team's early lead. On Sunday, Jokinen was the first to break through a tough Saint Joseph's defense and knock in the match's game-winning goal.
Moros Gracia, a 2016 team captain, was a driving force in the Owls' back line, helping to break down opponent offense and let only nine shots come in Owl territory.
