PHILADELPHIA - This Saturday, the college senior all star showcases conclude with the Senior Bowl. Temple fans have another chance to root for OL Dion Dawkins (#66) and DL Haason Reddick (#57) when they play for the North team.
The Reese's Senior Bowl is the premiere senior showcase played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., in front of NFL personnel from every team. The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. ET and will air on NFL Network.
Leading up to the Reese's Senior Bowl, NFL Network provides more on-location coverage than ever before. NFL Network provides live coverage of Senior Bowl week practices Tuesday, January 24 – Thursday, January 26, starting Tuesday at 2:00 PM ET and Wednesday and Thursday at 1:00 PM ET, with Andrew Siciliano, Mike Mayock and Daniel Jeremiah providing insight and analysis. NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks and reporters Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo provide additional practice reports.
Dawkins, a Rahway, N.J., native, was a four-year starter for the Owls where he played left tackle protecting QB Phillip Walker's blindside. He developed into one of the most dominant linemen in the country earning two-time all-conference recognition. He started 40 games during his career and helped Walker and RB Jahad Thomas re-write the Temple record books.
Reddick, a Camden, N.J., native, was a unanimous All-American Athletic Conference selection in 2016 when he led the nation with 22.5 TFLs. He also notched 65 tackles, 10.5 sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. A former walk-on in 2012 who converted from safety to linebacker to defensive end, Reddick finished his career with 46.0 TFLs, ranked second on the school's all-time list.
Dawkins and Reddick are among five Temple seniors to play in showcase bowls – tying the most ever for a Temple class (done three times previously – 1945, 2011, 2015). DL Praise Martin-Oguike, DB Nate Hairston, and LB Avery Williams have already participated in three games this month.
Martin-Oguike collected five tackles and a sack in last week's Tropical Bowl.
Hairston made several plays in the East-West Shrine Game and provoked the following comment from Eagleswire's Turron Davenport: "He uses his footwork to get into position to make plays on the ball. Hairston is one of those defensive backs that can undercut routes, especially on slants. He shows the willingness to fight for the ball through the tuck, never giving up on a play."
Williams opened eyes playing in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl observed Pro Player Insider: "Williams was all over the field on Saturday. Weighing in at 210 pounds, he did an excellent job of shedding a blocker to stop the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage, he covered the flat to make a tackle on a running back, and he chased down a running back deep into the secondary to prevent a touchdown. He even made a couple of tackles on special teams. His name was announced often in the early stages of the game, and was the leading tackler for the Americans. At his size, NFL coaches might try to convert him into the hybrid safety/linebacker that's become nouveau."
