Men's Soccer Racks Up Weekly Awards

PHILADELPHIA - On Monday, the American Athletic Conference and Philadelphia Soccer City Six announced their weekly men's soccer award winners for the week of Oct. 1. Newcomers Alan Soto Camacho and Michael Samnik each reaped awards for helping Temple to last week's 3-0 shutout against Penn State and 2-1 (2OT) victory at Memphis. Soto Camacho was named American and Soccer City Six Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. Samnik was named Soccer City Six Defender of the Week.

Soto Camacho led the Temple offense with six points last week, including both goals in the  2-1 (2OT) win at Memphis. He opened the week by scoring the first goal in a 3-0 win over Penn State on Sept. 27. During Saturday's match at Memphis, Soto Camacho scored the opening goal in the 62nd minute and added the golden goal in double overtime in the 101st minute. The three goals last week were also his first career goals.

Samnik posted his first career shutout when he blanked Penn State on Wednesday at the Temple Sports Complex, 3-0. The sophomore logged three saves in just his second career start. On Saturday, Samnik and the Temple defense only allowed one goal from Memphis in the 2-1 (2OT) victory.
