Volleyball Sweeps Tulane for 10th Conference Win

PHILADELPHIA - Temple volleyball improved to 10-2 in the American Athletic Conference with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Tulane on Sunday afternoon. The Owls won 25-21, 25-12, 27-25 as their seventh straight win improved them to 14-6 overall. The Green Wave dip to 13-12, 2-10 in conference play.
KEYS TO THE MATCH
> Temple hit .297 as a team, including a.500 attack in set two.
> The Owls held Tulane to a .118 offense, with seven team blocks.
> Temple won a close set one, and then a lopsided set two.
> In the third, the Owls were cruising before a late Tulane run forced extra points.
> Temple then closed out the match for the team's second sweep of the weekend.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Kyra Coundourides ran a balanced offense, dishing out 36 assists, while adding a team-best 12 digs.
> Redshirt freshman Dana Westfield tallied 13 kills on 27 swings, hitting .444.
> Senior Izzy Rapacz notched a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, adding five blocks.
> Freshman Katerina Papazoglou finished with nine kills and 10 digs.
> Senior Janine Simmons tallied three kills without an error, adding four blocks, one solo.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji picked up nine digs, while freshman Averi Salvador added seven.
SET ONE: Temple 25, Tulane 21
> Tulane had the early lead, going up 4-2.
> The Owls battled back to tie at 4-4 and 6-6.
> From there, the set featured four more ties to make it 14-14.
> Temple used five unanswered points to take control at 19-14.
> However, Tulane countered with a 6-3 spurt to cut it to 22-21.
> Temple was able to finish it out with kills from Westfield and Rapacz to take the set.
SET TWO: Temple 25, Tulane 12
> The Owls hit .500 in the frame, holding the Green Wave to a .062 clip.
> After an early 5-5 it was all Temple.
> The Owls used an 11-1 surge to put the set out of reach for Tulane.
> Temple held the Green Wave without a run the rest of the way.
> Temple ended the set on a Tulane serve error and an attack error.
SET THREE: Temple 27, Tulane 25
> Tulane had its best hitting performance of the match -- a .178 attack, but Temple hit .240 to complete the sweep.
> Temple created separation in a tight frame, using a 6-2 run to go up 16-12.
> Tulane hung around, cutting it to two points twice, before the Owls had set point at 24-20.
> The Green Wave spoiled four-straight set points to tie it at 24-24.
> Tulane had a set point of their own after a block put the visitors up 25-24.
> Temple responded with a block from Rapacz and Iva Deak to tie things at 25-25.
> With the serve, Temple got an ace from Rapacz and a kill from Papazoglou to close out the set and match.
