Volleyball Tops USF, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team got back in the win column, with a 3-1 victory (25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23) over visiting USF on Sunday afternoon. The Owls move to 17-9 overall, 13-5 in conference play, while the Bulls dip to 12-16, 7-11 in The American.
KEYS TO THE MATCH
> Temple hit .319 in the match, holding USF to a .244 attack.
> The Owls racked up 82 digs, leading the Bulls 82-67 in the category.
> Temple rallied from a slow start in the first set to take the first two games.
> USF took a close set three, before Temple wrapped it up with a 25-23 win in the fourth.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Izzy Rapacz had a double-double with 16 kills and 21 digs, tying a career high.
> Redshirt freshman Dana Westfield ended her night with 15 kills and six digs.
> Junior Iva Deak tied her career best with 14 kills, hittng a massive .522.
> Freshman Katerina Papazoglou finished with 11 kills.
> Junior Carla Guennewig racked up 10 kills and a team-best five blocks.

SET ONE: Temple 25, USF 17
> Temple needed to rally in the first set, as USF opened with a 5-1 lead.
> USF had an 12-8 advantage before the Owls began the comeback.
> A 10-2 Temple run gave the Owls the momentum, as the hosts went up 18-14.
> USF would get no closer than three points the rest of the way, as the Owls used 7-3 surge to end it.
SET TWO: Temple 25, USF 22
> The teams traded points to open the first frame before an Owls' block and a Rapacz kill made it 10-6 Temple.
> USF went on a 6-3 run to close the gap to 13-12, but Temple did not relinquish the lead.
> Temple opened a 20-15 lead, before USF rallied to make it 23-22 on an ace.
> Out of a timeout, Temple got kills from Westfield and Guennewig to go up 2-0 in the match.
SET THREE: USF 25, Temple 22
> USF had control early in the third set, leading 13-10 midway through play.
> Temple rallied to cut it to 14-13, but four unanswerd USF points made it 18-14 bulls.
> The USF lead grew to 21-15, but Temple rallied to make it 21-18, and later 24-22.
> The Bulls were able to close it out, however getting the final kill to make it 25-22.
SET FOUR: Temple 25, USF 23
> Temple broke a 4-4 tie with a 4-1 run to lead 8-5 early in the fourth.
> The Owls stayed on top, with at least a two point lead, extending it to 20-16 on a Papazoglou kill.
> After a USF timeout, the Bulls rallied to close it to 24-23, but Temple got a Rapacz kill to end it.
