Offensive Woes Plague Women's Basketball in Loss to Ole Miss

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team dropped a 64-48 game to visiting Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon. The loss dips the Owls to 4-2 on the season, while the Rebels improve to 5-1.

KEYS TO THE GAME
> Temple held the high powered Rebel offense mostly in check, as Ole Miss came into the game averaging nearly 88 points per outing.
> However, while Temple's defense was clicking, the offense went cold, shooting just 25% from the field (15-60), including going just 1-14 (7.1%) in the fourth quarter.
> The Owls forced 23 Ole Miss turnovers, but Temple was out-rebounded 47-36.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Tanaya Atkinson turned in her fifth double-double in six games, leading the Owls with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals.
> Senior Khadijah Berger scored nine points with a pair of assists.
> Junior Shannen Atkinson and freshman Mia Davis each put up four points and six rebounds.

FIRST QUARTER
> Ole Miss had the hot hand in the first quarter, opening the game with an 11-5 run.
> Temple scored six straight, including a Berger three to tie it up at 11-11 with 2:41 left.
> The Rebels closed out the frame with a 4-0 run to take a 15-11 lead after one.

SECOND QUARTER
> Both teams traded 4-0 runs to open the second, setting the score to 19-15.
> From there, an 8-3 Ole Miss surge, put the Rebels up 27-18 with 5:32 to play.
> The teams traded buckets for the final minutes, with Ole Miss scoring the final one to take a 35-34 lead at the break.

THIRD QUARTER
> Temple opened the frame on an 8-3 run to close the gap to 38-32 on a pair of Atkinson free throws.
> Ole Miss responded with an 8-0 surge over the next two minutes to open their largest lead of the game, 46-32 with 3:49 left.
> Temple then used an 8-2 run to close the frame, trailing Ole Miss 48-40.

FOURTH QUARTER
> The Rebels pushed the lead to 55-40, opening the quarter on a 7-0 run.
> Temple was held scoreless until 5:24 on the clock, when Atkinson scored four straight to make it 55-44.
> That was as close as the Owls would get, as Ole Miss scored nine of the final 13 points to finish out the win.

UP NEXT
> Temple continues its seven game home stretch on Wednesday night.
> The Owls will host Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's at 7:00 p.m. at McGonigle Hall.
