Temple Athletics Announces Six Additions to its Basketball Ring of Honor

PHILADELPHIA – Six new members will be added to the Temple University Basketball Ring of Honor during the 2017-18 season announced Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft.
National champion coach James Usilton, Sr., 1940s great Angelo Musi, 10-year NBA veteran Ollie Johnson and All-American guard Nate Blackwell will be the men's basketball honorees while 1920s standout Dora Lurie and stellar point guard Donna Kennedy are the women's basketball representatives.
"Six decades are represented by the second class of the Temple Basketball Ring of Honor," said Kraft. "Both programs have a rich tradition of excellence and this is a special way to put a spotlight on our history of basketball success."
Blackwell (1983-87), who scored 1,708 points, dished 533 assists and later served as Temple assistant coach, and Musi (1940-42), an honorable mention All-American who captained the Philadelphia Warriors championship team, will be honored at halftime of the Owls' game against Saint Joseph's on Dec. 9.
Usilton (1926-39), who coached Temple for 13 seasons including the 1938 NIT championship, and Johnson (1969-72), who led the Owls in scoring and rebounding as a junior and senior, will be honored at halftime of Temple's game against Memphis on Jan. 13.
Lurie (1919-22), who was the star player for Temple women's basketball teams that posted 67 straight wins, and Kennedy (1979-83), who set school records for career assists and steals, will be honored at halftime of the Owls' game against top-ranked UConn on Jan. 21.
