Women's Basketball Wins Big over Harvard

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team opened play with a 20-2 run and the final outcome was never in doubt, as the Owls toppled visiting Harvard, 86-64, on Saturday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. Temple is off to a 6-2 start, its best since the 2009-10 squad opened with a 9-1 start. Harvard fell to 4-4 with the loss.

KEYS TO THE GAME
> After a 2-0 Harvard start, the Owls rattled off 20 unanswered points to put the game out of reach just 6:34 into play.
> Temple shot 58.1% (18-31) in the first two quarters, ending the game shooting 45.8% from the field.
> The Owls held a double-digit advantage for nearly 37 minutes, leading by as many as 30 points.
> Temple held Harvard to just 21.1% (8-38) from three point range and 32.5% (25-77) for the game.
> Four players scored double-figures for the Owls for the first time since the season opener against Delaware State.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Tanaya Atkinson continued her torrid start, notching her seventh double-double in eight games this year.
> The guard finished with game highs of 27 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.
> Freshman Mia Davis tallied 13 points with seven boards.
> Senior Khadijah Berger scored 12 points on 4-of-5 from the field, adding three helpers.
> Freshman Desiree Oliver finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
> Freshman Breanna Perry had eight points.
> Freshman Emani Mayo finished with four points, five assists, and seven rebounds.
> Sophomore Shannen Atkinson ended her night with four points, six rebounds, and a career-best four blocks.

FIRST QUARTER
> Temple expoded for its highest scoring quarter of the season. 
> After an opening lay-up from Harvard the Owls went on a 20-0 run to go up, 22-2.
> Temple nailed its first three from long range, and finished with four from long range in the frame.
> An 8-3 Harvard run got the lead down to 15 points, but Davis sunk a pair from the line to put the Owls up 29-12 after one.

SECOND QUARTER
> Harvard struck first in the frame, but a 12-4 Temple run put Temple up 41-16, their largest lead of the game.
> The Crimson answered with a 12-4 run to cut the lead to 17 with 1:24 to play.
> Temple closed out the frame on a 5-0 surge, with a Berger three and an Atkinson lay-up, giving the Owls a 50-28 lead at the break.

THIRD QUARTER
> Harvard started the frame with a 6-5 edge to get the advantage down to 21 points.
> However, the Owls outscored Harvard 18-14 in the frame to increase the lead to 68-42 after three.

FOURTH QUARTER
> Harvard held a 22-18 advantage in the fourth quarter, but the Owls' lead was never less than 22 points.

> Temple continues its non-conference slate with a Thursday game against Hampton.
