Track and Field Shines at Fastrack Season Opener

Staten Island, N.Y. - Temple women's track and field started the indoor season off strong with several solid performances at the Fastrack Season Opener hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. The squad brought home two first place finishes courtesy of sophomore Ebonee Jackson, who won the 60m hurdles, and junior Crystal Jones, who dominated the high jump. In the first competition of the year the Owls also earned eight other top-10 finishes across six individual events.
Keys to the Meet
> Jackson represented the Owls in the 60m hurdles. After breaking a personal record in the preliminary round, Jackson advanced to the finals. She reached a personal best time of 8.59 in the finals to take first overall in the event. Freshman Sydney Williams placed sixth (8.97).
> Jones earned the individual title in the high jump with a mark of 5'5" (1.65m). Teammate Kayla Nesbitt-McEwen placed fourth (5'1"/1.55m).Â
> Freshman Helene Gottlieb and sophomore Jazmyne Williams competed in the 1000m. Gottlieb finished second overall with a time of 2:56.30. Williams finished seventh with a time of 3:04.
> In the 200m, Sydney Williams snagged a third place finish in her first college meet with a time of 25.65. Sophomore Madison Beecher also represented Temple in the event with a fifth-place show (25.93). Freshman Skylar Sykes placed 10th (26.45).
> The 800m featured a top-three performance from junior Ashton Dunkley who completed the race in a time of 2:22.38 (3rd).
> Two Owls took top-10 finishes in the 60m dash. Sykes and junior Sylvia Wilson placed fifth (7.84) and sixth (7.88), respectively.
> Nesbitt-McEwen earned sixth place overall in the long jump with a leap of 16'5" (5.00m).Â
Meet Notes
> Jackson's 60m hurdle personal record is now 8.59, just .3 seconds off from program record 8.29 set by Sylvia Wilson in 2016.
> Beecher's time of 25.93 in the 200m marks a personal best.
